A great Superbike weekend for Jonathan Rea and Max Biaggi

Jonathan Rea won the 1st Superbike race at Circuit Brno with Max Biaggi finishing 2nd. In the 2nd race they switched positions. Max Biaggi is leading the World Superbike Championship with 352 points. Jonathan Rea has taken over 3rd place from Carlos Checa with 203 points.

Race 1
Jonathan Rea won the 1st race of Brno Superbike. This made him take over 3rd place from Carlos Checa in the World Superbike Championship. Max Biaggi was not able to overtake him and finished 2nd. 3rd place went to Cal Crutchlow.

Biaggi was leading after the start of Superbike Brno, but fell behind Rea already at the end of the 1st round. At the back of the field, things were not going all that well. Max Neukirchner fell in the 1st turn, taking the unfortunate Chris Vermeulen and Jakub Smrz down with him.

Despite of this great start, Biaggi got a lot of pressure from Crutchlow and Ruben Xaus. Both have passed him and Crutchlow was pursuing Rea, but was not able to catch him. Biaggi did not give up and slowly started to catch on to the leading duo. This resulted in a great fight over 2nd place in the last few rounds, which was won by Biaggi.

Leon Haslam, who is still pursuing the World Superbike Championship title, did not show much of himself. He had complained about a lack of grip during the test rounds. Ultimately he finished 8th.

Ruben Xaus finished 5th, which was his best result of the season. He raced in front of Noriyuki Haga, who was the fastest during the test on Friday and also during the warming up on Sunday. Michel Fabrizio did not score at all during the 1st race due to engine problems and Ducati’s Luca Scassa fell off early during the race. The disappointed Carlos Checa and Shane Byrne finished in 9th and 12th place.

Race 2
By winning the 2nd race of Brno Superbike, Max Biaggi has achieved his 9th victory of the season. Jonathan Rea also scored well in the 2nd race by taking 2nd place and after having suffered engine problems during the 1st race, Michel Fabrizio was determined to score well in the 2nd race. He ultimately finished 3rd.
Rea was leading early during the race, followed by Ruben Xaus, Biaggi, Fabrizio and Cal Crutchlow. Biaggi took 2nd place over from Xaus on Lap 3 and began chasing down Rea. By Lap 7, he overtook him at Turn 2. After that, Biaggi had built up a strong lead and was not bothered again.

Xaus kept his 3rd place until he crashed with only 6 laps to go. This gave Fabrizio the opportunity to take 3rd. The top 5 was completed by James Toseland and Noriyuki Haga. Cal Crutchlow had a disappointing 2nd race by finishing 14th after tire troubles. Besides Xaus, also Tom Sykes and Max Neukircher both crashed out of the race on Lap 1.

After his great performance at Circuit Brno, Biaggi is now leading the World Superbike Championship with 352 points. Leon Haslam had a disappointing weekend, but is still 2nd at the World Superbike standings with 284 points. Jonathan Rea has taken over 3rd place from Carlos Checa with 203 points.
