Jorge Lorenzo has done it again at Circuit Catalunya
Jorge Lorenzo has won his 5th MotoGP race of the 2010 season! With little threats he made his way up to victory in the MotoGP Catalunya at the beloved Circuit atalunya. Dani Pedrosa finished 2nd and Casey Stoner completed the MotoGP podium.
Lorenzo had to fight for his leading position with Andrea Dovizioso. The 2 drivers switched the leading position several times until Dovizioso crashed in lap 15 due to a failure with his front wheel. He did resume the race, but had to settle for 14th place while Lorenzo had a clear way to victory at the Spanish MotoGP.
Pedrosa had a good start, but had to brake in the 1st turn because of problems with his front wheel and fell off to 10th place behind Colin Edwards. During the race he managed to calmly make his way up to ultimately 2nd place, but it was not without a long fight with Casey Stoner. Stoner was up for 2nd place while he tried to keep Randy de Puniet off his back. Ultimately Stoner took the last podium spot and De Puniet got 4th place.
Suzuki had a good result with Alvaro Bautista and Loris Capirossi in 5th and 7th place, which was probably the most impressive result of MotoGP Catalunya. It was the 1st time this season for the Suzuki team to have its drivers finish in one of the front places. Bautista was driving in 7th place for a long period of the race, but moved his way up to 5th place behind De Puniet after the crashes of Dovizioso and Marco Simoncelli who were blocking his way. Ben Spies tried to pass Bautista, but failed and had to settle for 6th place. The final points paying positions went to Nicky Hayden, Marco Melandri and Hector Barbera.
Aleix Espargaro had a disappointing home race as he fell out due to a crash. Simoncelli had also fallen out due to a technical error.
Lorenzo is now leading the MotoGP Championship with a lead of 52 points. The Spanish MotoGP of this season has shown how a strong driver as Dovizioso can also be the victim of bad luck. How will they do in the next races?
