Jorge Lorenzo unstoppable under the Californian Sun
As Jorge Lorenzo won the MotoGP USA at Laguna Seca Raceway, he stretched out his Championship lead to 72 points. It was his 1st win at the Californian circuit and his 6th win of the 2010 season. Casey Stoner finished 2nd and scored his best results this season as it was his 4th podium finish in a row. Recovered from his injury, Valentino Rossi finished in a strong 3rd position.
Dani Pedrosa had a wonderful start at the MotoGP USA as he was leading the 1st part of the race and appeared to race to victory at Laguna Seca Raceway. Stoner ran behind him and Lorenzo started off in 4th position. It was on lap 5 when Lorenzo managed to pass Stoner and pressure Pedrosa’s lead. On Lap 11 his way was cleared as Pedrosa crashed out at turn 5.
Andrea Dovizioso was racing in 3rd position after Pedrosa had crashed out. While he had quite a margin over the drivers behind him, he was passed by Rossi with only 5 laps to go. Rossi managed to hold him off for the rest of the race and got the final podium spot while Dovizioso finished behind him. The MotoGP race had more exiting moments towards the end as Ben Spies and Nicky Hayden fought for 5th place. Ultimately, Hayden won and Spies finished behind him in 6th place. The top 10 was completed by Colin Edwards, Marco Melandri, Mika Kallio and Loris Capirossi. The remaining 2 riders to finish the race in 11th and 12th place were Roger Lee Hayden and Alex de Angelis.
Rookies Álvaro Bautista and Héctor Barberá faced early ends of their races as neither made it past Lap 4 due to crashes. Also Marco Simoncelli did not see the finish as he crashed out when battling teammate Melandri for 8th place.
Lorenzo is leading the MotoGP Championship with 210 points. Pedrosa is 2nd with 138 points and Dovizioso is behind him with 115 points.
