The 80th edition of the MotoGP Assen at the TT Assen Circuit was won by Jorge Lorenzo, who has won his 4th race of the season. At the start of the race he managed to take and maintain the lead after the 1st turn. Dani Pedrosa took 2nd place and Casey Stoner finished 3rd.
Into the 1st corner, Lorenzo was followed by Ben Spies and Casey Stoner. Front row starter Randy de Puniet had a bad start as he fell down to 9th place right at the 1st turn. Pedrosa and Stoner were being held up by Spies while Lorenzo was setting a strong pace at the front. It took Pedrosa until lap 3 to pass Spies and pursue Lorenzo with Stoner beside him. Though they had an advantage with their softer tires, Lorenzo’s harder tires were just starting to come into their own and giving Lorenzo back his advantage. After that, Lorenzo was leading the race and no more bothered.
Pedrosa seemed to be having trouble holding Stoner back, but as Stoner was not able to pick his bike up through the many right handers at TT Assen Circuit, he dropped off to 3rd place. Behind the front 3, there was a fierce battle going on between Spies, Andrea Dovizioso and De Puniet for 4th place. After a lot of position switching, Spies managed to take 4th place with Dovizioso and De Puniet behind him in 5th and 6th place.
Lorenzo is now leading the MotoGP World Championship with a 47 points advantage. Will anyone still be able to beat him?
