Lorenzo’s 3rd 2010 MotoGP victory at Silverstone!
Jorge Lorenzo has won last weekend’s British MotoGP at the Silverstone circuit by a margin of 6,743 seconds over Andrea Dovizioso who finished 2nd. The last podium spot at Silverstone went to Ben Spies, who realized his 1st MotoGP podium place. This race has given Lorenzo a fine edge in the MotoGP World Championship as it is his 3rd victory this season.
Lorenzo started from pole position and immediately managed to maintain the lead. He had fierce battles with Dani Pedrosa in the 1st lap. The two Spaniards switched positions a couple of times until Pedrosa made a small mistake that took him back to 3rd place. After that, Pedrosa fell behind as he was not in top shape. Ultimately he finished 8th.
In the 7th lap, Lorenzo had built up his lead to over 5 seconds as Randy de Puniet, Dovisiozo and Nicky Hayden battled for 2nd place. De Puniet was racing in 2nd position, but lost his place to Dovizioso after a hard battle. De Puniet was also passed by Hayden who put some good pressure on Dovizioso after that. It seemed that Hayden would get a podium spot, but Spies passed him in the last lap and became 3rd before Hayden. De Puniet ultimately finished 6th, despite of his good start.
Casey Stoner started off 6th, but dropped to the back of the field as the riders entered the 1st turn. Despite of be dropped to the last position, he ultimately managed to finish 5th. The top 10 was completed by Marco Simoncelli, Pedrosa, Colin Edwards and Aleix Espargaro. Simoncelli had a good race as he climbed positions. His San Carlo Honda Gresini teammate Marco Melandri however, crashed out in the 1st lap.
Melandri was not the only one to crash out. Only 13 drivers finished the British MotoGP as Loris Capirossi crashed out in the 13th lap and Hiroshi Aoyama did not start at all after he fell during the warming-up.
The next MotoGP race will be driven in Holland at the TT Assen circuit. The race will be driven on Saturday. This means you have to be fast if you still want MotoGP tickets for the TT Assen and be there to see if Lorenzo will managed to maintain his leading position in the MotoGP World Championship.
