Mark Webber not settling for second driver treatment

Mark Webber dominated the British Grand Prix at Circuit Silverstone! Lewis Hamilton took the 2nd podium place for McLaren and Nico Rosberg completed the podium. Though he has not won the Silverstone F1, Hamilton maintains his Formula 1 Championship lead.

After Webber took the lead at the 1st corner right after the start, he was challenged by Hamilton and it was clear that neither one would give up. But unfortunately for McLaren, Hamilton had hit the back of Sebastian Vettel’s car who suffered a leak tire after that. When both came out of the pits, they fell off to the back of the race. Shortly after that, Fernando Alonso had a collision with Felipe Massa. Webber took advantage of the chaos behind him and had built up his lead.

Vettel and Hamilton had made their way up to the front after their collision as well as Robert Kubica after a slow start. As Vettel had to make a pit stop, Kubica ran in 3rd place ahead of Rosberg and Alonso. When Kubica suffered a retirement, Rosberg took over his 3rd place and kept it till the end of the race despite of the pressure from Jenson Button who ultimately finished 4th.

There was another safety-car period after the one for Hamilton and Vettel, when Pedro de la Rosa had collided with Adrian Sutil. Alonso had to wait after the safety-car period because he had got a drive-through penalty earlier when he drove through after falling into the grass. This has put him to the back of the race. Ultimately, he finished in 14th place. Vettel on the other hand, managed to profit the safety-car period and pulled up to 7th place, behind Kamui Kobayashi and Rubens Barrichello.

The final points paying positions went to Adrian Sutil, Michael Schumacher and Nico Hulkenberg. Alonso had to be content with 14th place as well as Massa with 15th place as he needed to stop after a spin. Alonso finished behind Vitantonio Liuzii, Sebastien Buemi and Vitaly Petrov.

Hamilton is still leading the Formula 1 Championship while many great drivers did not have a good weekend at Circuit Silverstone. See how they will do it on 25 July at the German Grand Prix!
