Max Biaggi ready to become World Superbike Champion

Aprilia Alitalia rider Max Biaggi continued along his victory road by taking his fourth double win of the year. He dominated the entire Misano Superbike in front of 69,000 spectators and moved further ahead in the World Superbike championship. With just five final rounds to go, Max Biaggi is leading the world standings with 307 points. Haslam holds the second position with 270 points and Carlos Checa holds the third position with 172 points.

Race 1
Superpole winner Troy Corser (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) was a co-star in race one, leading for 16 laps at circuit Misano before yielding to Max Biaggi. Eventually he finished third. However, it was Corser out in front at the start of the opening race until Biaggi and Checa started gaining up on him. Meanwhile, Ducati’s Michel Fabrizio and Guintoli engaged each other in a heated duel for fourth-place while the top-three riders pulled away from the pack.

In the final stages of the race Corser began to falter and Biaggi and Checa were right there to take advantage of his mistakes. Biaggi swept past Corser to resume his lead on Lap 17. In his attempt to retake the lead, Corser ran wide allowing the Ducati machine of Checa to pass. The three remained close together heading into the final lap, but it was Biaggi’s advantage on the short straights that allowed him to keep the lead across the finish line. Checa finished in second place, followed by Corser in third.

Max Biaggi: "I'm obviously happy with this victory. Especially because I did not expect it and because doing so well in Italy, in front of our supporters, has a very special flavor for us.

Race 2
Haslam was set on trying to overthrow Biaggi in the second World Superbike race but in the end he could not manage and had to settle with second place. Crutchlow fought back throughout the entire race to go from ninth to fourth position, taking the new lap record in the process. Crutchlow: "I had an ok start in race two, but got beaten up a bit in the first corner on the first lap and basically had to recover from then on.” Fabrizio eventually took third place by holding off Crutchlow successfully during the final laps of the race.

Yamaha's James Toseland suffered a crash after losing control of the front end, heading into a corner. “I've got the pace when the tire grip is good but I just find it difficult when I loose the grip on the bike to keep up with the other bikes coming off the corners,” commented Toseland. Where was Biaggi? He was in unbeatable form in race 2, surviving some hard early passing moves by his main rivals to get clear of the pack and push on to win by 4.095 seconds. This was his fourth double win of the season.

Max Biaggi comment: “In such a tough and well balanced championship, all of the victories are earned with hard work and sweat. In race 2, to be honest, maybe I was risking too much. But on the other hand, without risk there is no gain!”

Michel Fabrizio: "In the second race we did not win, but we got on the podium which is a good result. It was not easy and once Max passed me, I had no chance of counterattacking him. I had to do everything possible to hold onto third place with Crutchlow behind me.

By leaving Misano with a double win for Max Biaggi, the World Superbike standings have never been this exciting. There are just five final rounds left before the World Superbike climax and The Ticket Enterprise can provide you Superbike tickets for Brno.
