Mark Webber owned Monaco Grand Prix 2010!
Mark Webber achieved his 2nd victory of the year at the Grand Prix of Monaco. In a very exciting race on one of the most remarkable tracks on the F1 calendar he crossed the finish line in style after leading the entire race. Sebastian Vettel made a double win for Red Bull by finishing 2nd with Robert Kubica completing the podium.
Webber started off strong with his Red Bull teammate Vettel behind him. Kubica could not catch them and stayed in 3rd place. Nico Hulkenberg, who started off poorly due to a clutch problem, crashed into a guardrail after exiting the tunnel. This resulted in the first safety car situation of the 4 to come. Ferrari was alert and switched Fernando Alonso’s tires right away from soft to hard. He did not have to stop again during the race, leaving a lot of the new teams behind him. Jenson Button had to exit the race due to an engine failure and lost the lead in the World Championship to Webber. The engine failure was the fault of one of the mechanics, who forgot to take off the cover of the side pot which resulted in an overheated engine. Button remained calm.
Webber held on to his 1st place position while Vettel stayed behind him. Not much changed after the pit stops, except for the fact that Alonso was all of the sudden behind Lewis Hamilton in ?? place. Another safety car situation occurred when Rubens Barichello crashed into the guardrail at Massenet. He got out unharmed. When the race was resumed, Webber took off fast while Vettel was struggling with Kubica.
With only a few laps to go Webber was able to maintain his 1st place position superiorly. Jarno Trulli created a remarkable end of the race. In Rascasse he attempted to pass Chandhok, but it was no surprise that he failed. When Trulli tried to take over he ?shocked? Chandhok and the two had to leave the GP earlier than expected. This resulted in the fourth safety car situation.
Michael Schumacher passed Fernando Alonso on the final curve when the safety car drove in. He had passed the safety car line, so the maneuver seemed perfectly legal. Unfortunately the stewards thought otherwise and gave Schumacher a penalty of 20 extra seconds. Eventually Schumacher finished 6th and Alonso 7th, but because of the penalty Schumacher got the 12th position.
At the finish line, Mark Webber was celebrating his beautiful victory. The Red Bull driver shares the 1st place in the Championship with Vettel, but since he has won 2 races while Vettel only has 1, he has taken the lead for the 1st time in his career. “This is the best day of my life. The conditions on the track where constantly changing so we were really tested during the race, but that makes this victory even better.”
Nico Rosberg had expected more of the race than 8th place. He started 6th, but lost a few places at the start and in the last part of race he ended up behind Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher.
