Last weekend Indycar driver Dan Wheldon died in a huge crash during the season finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. His car became ensnared in a fiery 15-car pileup, flew over another vehicle and hit the catch fence just outside turn 2. The two-time Indianapolis 500 winner was airlifted to the University Medical Center, but it was already too late. Wheldon lost his life, leaving two children (2,5 years and 7 months old) and his wife behind. Wheldon died in the age of 33.
Following a driver meeting in which it was announced that the Emberton, Buckinghamshire driver had lost his life, the race was declared over by Brian Barnhart, the President of IndyCar’s Competition and Operations department. Team members lined pit road as the drivers completed a five-lap salute and Wheldon’s car number, 77, was displayed at the top of the timing tower.
Although The Ticket Enterprise doesn’t sell tickets for the race series of Indycar, we would like to pass on our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. Our team wishes them all the strength they need to deal with this tragedy. Our thoughts are with them.
